Legal Requirements

“As a registered Marriage Celebrant, I am qualified to conduct Marriage anywhere in Australia.”

For a Marriage to be valid, there are important legal requirements regarding documents and wording in the ceremony that must be adhered to. All registered Celebrants undertake annual on-going professional development to ensure we are up to date with the laws governing Marriage in Australia.

As your Celebrant, I will guide you through all aspects of your Marriage ceremony, ensuring that all legal requirements are met.

Giving Notice

A Notice of Intended Marriage form must be completed & given to the authorised Marriage Celebrant who is to conduct your Marriage ceremony. This can be done up to 18 months prior to your proposed Marriage, but no less than one month from the ceremony date.

Required Identification

If you or your partner were born in Australia, you will need to provide your birth certificates. Passports and drivers licenses are acceptable identification qualifiers.

If you were born overseas, then you will need to provide either your birth certificate, or a foreign passport.

You will also need to provide evidence that any prior Marriage has been dissolved by either death or divorce.

Other Legal Requirements

You must both sign a declaration of no Legal Impediment to Marriage, before your ceremony can take place. This legal document must be witnessed by your Marriage Celebrant.

Two (2) witnesses over the age of 18 years must be present at your ceremony, to pledge that they have witnessed and understood the ceremony.
